Elsie Avallano Colombo, 96, formerly of 174 Manomet Ave., North Haven, died Sept. 28 at the Village Green of Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Nino Colombo. She was born in San Costanzo, Italy, on July 8, 1915, daughter of the late Rinaldo and Matilda Tonelli Avallano. Elsie had been a seamstress for Robbie Len/Lee Beachwear of New Haven until her retirement. She was also a former member of the Marchegian Society, the Sentendrionale Club, and the Washington Pietro Mica Club.
She is survived by two children, Grace Monte of San Diego, California, and Ronald Colombo and his wife Dolores of North Haven; six grandchildren, Edd Kwieraga III, Jeffery Kwieraga, Wayne Kwieraga, James Colombo, Danielle Colombo, and Jonathan Colombo; four great-grandchildren, Catherine Kwieraga, Le Michael Kwieraga, and Elizabeth and Angelina Colombo; two great-great-grandchildren, Savanna Kwieraga and Angele Kwieraga; and a sister, Mary Panicali of North Haven. She was predeceased by her son, Gregory Colombo, formerly of North Haven, and three siblings, Nellie Felicello, Albo Monte, and Elco Monte.
Her funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home on Oct. 3 for a mass of Christian burial at St. Therese Church. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. www.northhavenfuneral.com
