The Leffingwell House Museum at the corner of Washington Street and the entrance to the Route 2 expressway often hosts creative and fun events for the public and this Saturday is another installment.
This time, the museum needs your help first.
The University of Connecticut Master Gardner program and Kim Kelly one of the coordinators of the program and mentor to the 1700 Dooryard Garden have donated two white crabapple trees that are ready to be planted.
The museum is looking for help to dig the holes and to plant the trees at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
“It’s a very short term project that will last for years,” said Beryl Fishbone, volunteer coordinator for the Leffingwell House. For more information call her at (860) 887-9000.
Once you’re done digging the holes and planting the trees, stay awhile at the museum for a fun fall event.
Leffingwell House Museum and Norwich Lions Club will host their annual Scarecrows and Cocoa Fall Festival from noon to 4 p.m. This is a neat piece of Norwich history. As the story goes, the Leffingwell brothers in colonial times cornered the local market in the new cocoa craze, importing cocoa beans and making hot chocolate.
Local restaurants and celebrities will compete for the best cocoa in town. Admission is $5 to for cocoa tasting and judging. Individuals, families, clubs and businesses are invited to bring scarecrows to decorate the museum lawn – no charge, no competition and business logos are welcome.
The rain should be cleared out by then, so get out and enjoy a fall festival.
