Last time I wrote about the Fontaine's "Jack O' Lantern" castle, it was a plea for help to get volunteers carving pumpkins.
Charlotte Geer, who organized the event, said people did come out: about 35 or 40, she said, during the 14 hours on Saturday and Sunday that she invited guests to come carve.
Geer supplied snacks, tools and pumpkins and has been a great supporter of this event. She should be applauded for all her hard work. She told me Tuesday that she has six lobster pots full of pumpkin seeds to be roasted. That's a lot of pumpkin seeds.
"I could supply the entire state with pumpkin seeds," Geer joked.
There's about 200 pumpkins on display at Dean Fontaine's property at 70 Norman Rd. and they'll stay lit up through Halloween. Dean has said this is the last time this will be done, in honor of his father, Edgar, who died in June but had put on the display for the last several years. There's even a pumpkin with "We miss you Edgar" carved into it.
So if you have time this week - and even if you don't - it's well worth a trip out to the Fontaine property for this magical event. It's the last time and should be celebrated.
If you can't get there, check out Peter Huoppi's fantastic video celebrating the event, or see the photograph here that Tim Martin took of the scene on Monday night.
