Norwich - Fundraising tapered off substantially during October for most City Council candidates who have established campaign committees, with incumbent Democratic Alderwoman Deberey Hinchey still topping everyone with $4,570 raised thus far.

Eight of the 11 City Council candidates have formed fundraising committees. Norwich for Change candidate Ron Ward filed single-page reports in both September and October saying he has raised less than $1,000.

Only two candidates raised more than $1,000 during the period that ran from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1. Democrat Mark Bettencourt raised $1,420 during October, when he started taking donations.

Democratic Alderman H. Tucker Braddock raised $1,230 in new contributions, adding to his combined total of $3,205, second to Hinchey.

Hinchey's fundraiding slowed - she pulled in just $360 in October - but her total still led all other candidates.

Democrat Charles Jaskiewicz also cut back, raising $450 in October after he raised $2,205 at the start of the campaign. Democratic Alderman Francois "Pete" Desaulniers has raised a total of $1,370, and just $155 in October.

Democrat Richard Caron also filed the single-page report saying he raised less than $1,000, but Caron had $1,485 by the end of September. Because he did not file an itemized list, his combined total amount was not available.

Republican candidate Sofee Noblick failed to file the report by Tuesday's deadline. On Wednesday, Noblick said she and her treasurer misread the calendar and will file the report today. She said she raised $1,065 in October. Noblick in September filed the single-page form saying she had raised less than $1,000.
