Regular readers of theday.com probably have seen Keith Ripley’s wonderful photographs of scenic spots and historic landmarks in Norwich. He posts items frequently on our Zip06 Norwich page.
Keith’s latest contribution is gem. He recently took the 30-minute walking tour of historic Norwichtown, using a Norwich Tourism brochure as a guide and took seven beautiful photographs on a bright fall day. He identified each historic house and monument in the caption.
Some of the grand buildings you will recognize, as they catch the eye as you drive or walk past. The big yellow mansion with the stone lions in front is former Gov. Samuel Huntington’s home. The white First Congregational Church on the green was founded along with the city in 1659.
But Keith will introduce you to other landmarks you might have missed -- the inviting entrance gate to the Lothorp Meadows, the ornate gate to the Old Burying Ground, the tiny East District School at 365 Washington St.
Check out his slideshow by choosing the Norwich page on the Zip06 listing of towns and scrolling to down to the Photo Gallery in the Community Contributions section. Enjoy.
If you want to see other samples of Keith’s photography, you have only to go to the Norwich city clerk’s office at City Hall. Keith has produced several postcards of Norwich spots and has donated them to the city to sell as a fundraiser. These include beautiful shots of Norwich Harbor, the historic Yantic mill village and Mohegan Park.
And if you see Keith wandering around town with a camera slung over his shoulder, thank him for showcasing Norwich’s best side.
