Preston recount to be held Tuesday

Preston – The recount in the Preston first selectman race will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the lower level at Preston Town Hall.

Eight-term incumbent Republican First Selectman Robert Congdon defeated Democratic challenger Selectman Timothy Bowles by 17 votes Tuesday, triggering an automatic recount.

Election officials held off scheduling the recount at first to contact Bowles to ask if he wished to waive his right to a recount under state law.

Bowles said he wanted to see the recount go forward after hearing several stories from voters during the day Tuesday that there may have been problems with the town's voting machine.

"There were enough issues that were raised," Bowles said.

The recounting process is open to the public.
