Old Saybrook — The Main Street Business Association will hold the 23rd annual Main Street Winter Stroll from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
Each business along Main Street will have treats and events. The evening will include hayrides, a visit with Santa, music and chorus singers as well as the lighting of the town and of the state’s third annual “Heroes Tree” at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.
The tree will be lit at 5:30 p.m. Those gathered around the tree will pay tribute to the deceased, the injured and currently active members of the military from Connecticut.
The tree is adorned with gold stars for the deceased, silver stars for the injured and blue stars for Connecticut residents who have served the country since Sept. 11, 2001. The tree was decorated by veterans of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, their families and members of the Old Saybrook community and middle school art students who made the decorated paper stars.
Craig M. Whitcher, chaplin from the Old Saybrook Fire Department, will offer an invocation at the tree-lighting ceremony.
