Groton— Twenty midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy visited the Naval Submarine Base before their Thanksgiving holiday to try out the submarine trainers.
The damage control trainer is a replica of a submarine engine room with pre-designed leaks and other material failures the instructional staff can program.
"The classroom instruction was excellent," said Midshipman Jamie Vales. "We were well prepared for the situations we would face in the trainer. It was a lot more challenging once we were in the trainer trying to repair all the leaks than practicing in the classroom. But I felt good about my performance and think we did well as a team."
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
