New London - The doors will open at 6 p.m. Monday at the Garde Arts Center for a mayoral inauguration that promises to be filled with pomp and circumstance.
The ceremony, which will be begin at 6:30 p.m., will be the official start of Mayor-elect Daryl Justin Finizio's four-year term as the first elected mayor of the city in decades.
No one will be allowed to enter the auditorium after 6:45 p.m.
The formal festivities will include the Police Department Color Guard and the Fire Department Pipes and Drums. Democratic Town Committee Chairman William Satti will emcee.
Members of the Board of Education and the City Council will be sworn in starting at 7 p.m., followed by Finizio taking his oath of office.
To meet the requirements of the City Charter, outgoing Mayor Martin Olsen and three city councilors will meet at City Hall at 7 p.m. to call the City Council meeting to order.
They will then recess and reconvene at the Garde for the inaugurations.
A free reception for the public will follow at 8 p.m. at the Crocker House.
