Pictures with Santa for those on two feet and those with four paws, hooves, wings, etc

This Friday afternoon, get ready for loads of cuteness because children and pets are invited to take their pictures with Santa during the 'Paws and Claus' event sponsored by the Ledyard Animal Control Department.

This makes me laugh because every Halloween and Christmas my dad and I always embarrass (and probably excruciatingly annoy) our two dogs by dressing them in the most ridiculous costumes and then bombarding them with cameras like the paparazzi.

One year, we dressed my Pug in a Little Bo Peep outfit. I was in tears. He looked like he lost all manliness he ever had.

My dad's dog, Lucy, had her picture taken with Santa a few years ago. In the picture, Santa's smiling and Lucy has a look of sheer terror. It's like one of those pictures with children where Santa's laughing and the kid is hysterically crying and makes it seem like it's the worst experience they've ever had. I'm trying to track down at least one of these pictures of my dogs -- if I get it, I'll post it here. Have a good laugh.

So, what I'm suggesting is that you bring the kiddies and pets for what is hopefully a fun filled afternoon of pictures.

If it's not, at least you have evidence to laugh at. In no way am I condoning torturing your children or pets by putting them in an uncomfortable situation, but it does make some quality laughing material. And, it's a bonus if the pictures turn out good -- check the search for a holiday card off the list!

The free event includes a petting zoo, hot cocoa, raffles and demonstrations if the pictures don't go so well.

The event runs from 3:30-7:30 p.m., at Ledyard High School on 24 Gallup Hill Road.
