WHO: Anna, 10, is a child with developmental disabilities and significant needs that are scarcely addressed due to her environment and her family's poverty.
AGENCY: The Arc New London County supports full inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in southeastern Connecticut.
THEIR SITUATION: Anna lives with her large extended family in a small rental unit, which is part of a multiple family dwelling. Her mother, father and sibling all have developmental disabilities with varying challenges. Covering basic necessities are struggles that inhibit a focus on addressing educational, vocational, or therapeutic needs. Through donations of clothing and items that are specific to her interests, Anna can gain self-esteem, confidence and pride in her accomplishments.
WHAT TO GIVE: Clothing (women's medium), winter items (coat, hat, etc.), full size bedding, gift cards for groceries and basic necessities, an iPod for music, dolls, arts and crafts supplies, Wal-Mart gift cards to cover daily incidentals.
TO DONATE: Items can be dropped off at The Arc's administrative offices located at 125 Sachem St., Norwich, or at The Arc's Sullivan Employment Center at 52 Sacred Heart Drive in Groton. For more information, please contact Laurie Herring, chief operations & quality assurance officer at (860) 889-4435 extension 119 or e-mail lherring@thearcnlc.org.
