UConn's Moorhead headed to Fordham

Joe Moorhead, who spent three seasons as an assistant in the UConn football program, will be named head coach at Fordham University, sources told The Day on Wednesday.

Footballscoop.com also reported an announcement of Moorhead's hiring should come this week.

Moorhead, a 1996 Fordham graduate, will replace Tom Masella, who was fired last month after the Rams went 1-10 in his 10th season. Fordham is a member of the Patriot League, a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) conference.

Moorhead, who could not be reached for comment, was hired by former UConn head coach Randy Edsall in 2009 and spent two seasons as offensive coordinator.

When Edsall left after the 2010 season for Maryland, Moorhead was kept on staff by new coach Paul Pasqualoni, but was demoted to quarterbacks coach after Pasqualoni opted to bring in George DeLeone as his offensive coordinator.
