WHO: Susan, 32, mom who lives with her two young daughters.
AGENCY: Thames River Family Program, a transitional housing program for formerly homeless families headed by single women, the core program of Thames River Community Service Inc.
HER SITUATION: Susan is recovering from a series of operations which have left her very ill and her road to recovery is expected to be a long one. She will not be able to get to the grocery store for some time. Susan has always worked, but due to her circumstances, she will not be able to return to the work force. She has always been independent and has provided for herself and her two girls, but her present situation has made this very difficult and she will need a lot of support to get her through this period. She will receive this support from the community and staff at Thames River Family Program, according to Kathy Allen, director of services and operations.
WHAT TO GIVE: Stop & Shop or ShopRite grocery store gift certificates. As winter is approaching and her girls are growing, she has not been able to get out to buy her girls shoes. They wear size 1 (school age) and infant/toddler size 10. The girls clothing sizes are 7/8 and 4/5 as well.
TO DONATE: Call Kathy Allen or Shanda Easley at Thames River Family Program (860) 887-3288.
