Charleston, S.C. - Second-ranked UConn will be without reserve center Heather Buck today (7 p.m., CPTV) when the Huskies play College of Charleston in a women's basketball game at TD Arena.
Buck, a 6-foot-3 junior from Stonington, injured her right wrist during the second half of Monday's 66-61 loss to No. 1 Baylor in Waco, Texas.
The severity of the injury is unknown, although she is expected to have the wrist examined when UConn returns home on Thursday.
The Huskies (9-1) are led by freshman reserve Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, who is averaging 15.8 points per-game coming off the bench, and sophomore point guard Bria Hartley, who scored 25 points against Baylor and is averaging 14.9 points.
College of Charleston, a member of the Southern Conference, is 2-7.
Following tonight's game, the Huskies are idle until Thursday, Dec. 29, when they play state rival Fairfield at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs at 7:30 p.m.
Men's basketball
• A.J. English and Ky Howard scored 19 points apiece as unbeate St. Thomas More rolled to an 81-59 victory over Community College of Rhode Island.
Howard also had six rebounds for the Chancellors (12-0) while Denzell Gregg added 16 points and six rebounds and Barrington Stevens finished with 11 points.
H.S. swimming
• Matt Peluso (500 freestyle) and Michael Hughes (100 breaststroke) won individual events in Ledyard-Stonington's season-opening 89-81 loss to Westerly at Avery Point in Groton.
College baseball
• UConn's LJ Mazzilli has been named to the first team of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason all-american team.
Mazzilli, a junior second baseman, batted .338 as a sophomore with 48 runs scored, 32 RBI, 23 doubles and 11 stolen bases.
