Ledyard - Sixth-ranked Ledyard High School beat No. 10 Windham 48-24 Wednesday night in a nonleague matchup of perennial Eastern Connecticut Conference wrestling powers.
Nick Lauer (113 pounds), Mike Graff (126), Brandon Finney (145), Tom Finney (152), Ryan Lyons (160) and Mike Spellman (182) had pins for Ledyard (2-0) and Matt Jones (120), Alex Manwaring (170) and Colin Grim (195) also won matches for the Colonels.
In other matches:
• Dillon McCarthy won by decision at 152 pounds and Collin McCarthy pinned his opponent at 160, leading Waterford past East Lyme, 58-15, in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division. Chris Leffert (182) won by pin for the Lancers (1-1, 1-0). Alex Parker won by pin at 170 and Conner Parker won his 120-pound match by decision for East Lyme (0-2, 0-1).
• Montville rode five pins and three forfeits to a 54-18 win over Lyman Memorial in an ECC Medium Division match. Tommy Wynosky (106), Jake Caskey (126), Nick Bellerose (138), Dan Kurasz (170) and MacKenzie Mahn (195) had pins for Montville (5-0, 1-0). Joe Rainville of Montville beat Cody Luhbusch 1-0 at 113. Kyle Wing (182) and Darick Orange (285) had pins for Lyman (1-1, 0-1).
• Bacon Academy opened its ECC Large Division schedule with a 60-17 win over Woodstock Academy. Matt McAllister (126), Chris Elrod (132), Brandon Dufour (160) and Ben Fowler (170) had pins for Bacon (2-0).
• Carlos Nejia (126), Sri Louis (145), Greg Kohler (160), Marcus Delgado (182) and Juan Cruz (220) pinned their opponents in New London's 54-30 loss to Killingly in the Medium Division. The Whalers are 1-1, 0-1.
• Cody Poirier and James Tramantozzi won by pin at 106 and 113, respectively, helping Norwich Free Academy beat Fitch 69-12 in the ECC Large Division. The Wildcats are 2-3, 1-0. Sean Blais (182) and Nick Perrota (120) won by pin for the Falcons (0-2, 0-1).
• Griswold won all four matches that were contested, beating St. Bernard 75-0 in an ECC Medium Division match. Kyle Dombrowski (160), Aaron Walmsley (170) and Jake DeRosa (182) won by pin and Damion Currier (220) won by decision for Griswold (1-1, 1-0). St. Bernard (0-2, 0-1) forfeited the other nine weight classes.
H.S. hockey
• Sean Hurley's third-period goal lifted St. Bernard-NFA-Bacon to a 2-1 win over Newington-Berlin. Brendon Richard also scored, Blake Biancamano had an assist and Evan Callahan made 25 saves for St. Bernard (1-2).
College basketball
• Ky Howard scored a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds and Rodney Sanders had 17 points, as St. Thomas More remained unbeaten with a 99-74 win over NIA Prep. Torin Childs-Harris of New London had nine points for the Chancellors (13-0).
UConn football
• Chandler Whitmer, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback from Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., signed a national letter of intent with UConn on Wednesday. Whitmer, who spent one season at Illinois before transferring to Butler CC, will enroll in January and have three years of eligibility. Whitmer completed 180 of 316 passes for 3,022 yards and 25 touchdowns for Butler CC and was intercepted 14 times. Butler went 11-1 and won the Region VI junior college championship. He will be joined in January by another quarterback newcomer, Masuk of Monroe's Casey Cochran. Cochran, the two-time Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year, is graduating from Masuk in 3 1/2years.
