Thirty CAC Swimmers attended the 3 day, 11th Annual Bruce Hutchinson Holiday Classic held at the Bruce Hutchinson Natatorium on the Southern Connecticut State University campus in New Haven Connecticut. The meet, held December 9 - 11, 2011 was extremely competitive and attended by 15 other teams coming from Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

Friday afternoon and evening saw the distance events with all events competed as Timed Finals. For 11 and older swimmers, Saturday and Sunday daytime races were preliminaries with the top 16 finishers returning in the evening for Championship Finals (top 8 preliminary finishers) and Consolation Finals (next 8 preliminary finishers). For 10 and under swimmers all races were competed as Timed Finals.

Coach Christine Pelham’s comprehensive training program really paid off for CAC’s 30 swimmers. The team’s collective hard work, dedication, and passion for competitive swimming made for a huge showing for this southeastern Connecticut based US Swim Team.

CAC swimmers finished in final round action 54 times with 23 Championship Final and 31 Consolation Final swims. In Timed Finals swimming, CAC Swimmers placed in the top 10 spots 15 times.

In Championship Finals, the Swimmers placed first 4 times, second 3 times, third once, fourth four times, fifth twice, sixth and seventh 3 times and eighth 4 times.

In Consolation finals, the swimmers placed first 6 times, second 5 times, third 3 times, fourth 5 times, sixth 4 times, seventh twice, and eighth 6 times.

In Timed Final competition, the swimmers had three 1st places, two 3rd and 4th places, one 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th place and two 9th and 10th place finishes.

East Lyme swimmer Billy Dumais (16), swimming preliminaries in the Boys 15 – Over Division, placed 11th in the 200 Back (2:06.92), 12th in the 200 Fly (2:16.10), 15th in the 100 Back (1:00.00), 19th in the 200 Free (1:55.24), 21st in the 100 Fly (59.97), and 44th in the 100 Free (55.76).

Billy placed 3rd in the timed final 1650 Free with a 17:49.60. Swimming B Finals, Billy placed 1st and won the B Final 100 Back with a 58.53. Billy has qualified for both Connecticut Age Group Championships and Senior Championships in the 200 Back, 200 Fly, 100 Back, 200 Free, 100 Fly, and the 1650 Free.

East Lyme’s Ryan Dumais (14), swimming preliminaries in the Boys 13 – 14 Division, placed 15th in the 100 Back (1:11.26), 18th in the 200 Free (2:09.02), 20th in the 50 Free (26.93), 21st in the 200 Back (2:32.34), 24th in the 100 Free (59.87).

Swimming in the B Finals, Ryan placed 3rd in the 100 Back with a 1:08.96.

East Lyme swimmer, Alexis Dumais (12), swimming preliminaries in the Girls 11 – 12 Division, placed 6th in the 50 Back (33.52), 8th in the 200 Back (2:33.33), 13th in the 100 Free (1:11.96), 21st in the 50 Free (30.23), 22nd in the 200 Free (2:20.68), 27th in the 100 Free (1:06.35), 36th in the 200 IM (2:46.42).

Swimming B Finals, Alexis placed 3th in the 100 Back (1:11.09). Swimming in A Finals, Alexis placed 6th in the 50 Back (33.70). Alexis has qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships in the 200 Back.

Old Lyme’s and William’s Blues High School Swimmer Josh Goldstein (14), swimming preliminaries in the Boys 13-14 Division placed 38th in the 100 Breast (1:33.99), 41st in the 200 IM (2:57.85), and 55th in the 100 Free (1:11.16).

Ledyard High School Colonel swimmer Jess Hespeler (16), swimming preliminaries in the Girls 15 – Over Division placed 1st in the 100 Free (53.20), 2nd in the 200 Free (1:53.39) and 200 Fly (2:13.05), 4th in the 100 Fly (1:01.92) and 200 IM (2:13.05) and 15th in the 100 Back (1:04.36).

Swimming in A Finals, Jess placed 1st and won the 200 Free A Final (1:51.41) and 100 Free (52.15). In other A Final racing, Jess placed 2nd in the 100 Fly (59.64) and 3rd in the 200 IM (2:09.58). Swimming Timed Finals, Jess placed 1st and winning the 1650 Free with a 17.20.18. Swimming B Finals, Jess placed 2nd in the 100 Back B Final (1:03.01). The Colonel swimmer has qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships and Connecticut Senior Championships in the 100, 200, and 1650 Free, 100, 200 Fly, and 200 IM. She’s also qualified for Connecticut Senior Championships in the 100 Back.

Waterford’s Meredith Hird (15) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 15 – Over Division placed 15th in the 100 Free (57.71), 16th in the 200 Breast (2:40.86), 17th in the 100 Breast (1:15.85) and 200 Back (2:22.79), 29th in the 100 Back (1:08.77) and 32nd in the 100 Back (2:07.19).

Swimming in B Final rounds, Meredith placed 2rd in the 100 Breast (1:14.20) and 8th in the 200 Breast (2:43.46), 200 Back (2:24.32) and 100 Free (1:01.66).

Waterford High School, Lancer swimmer Asia Langley, swimming preliminaries in the Girls 13 – 14 Division placed 1st in the 50 Free (25.38) and 100 Free (54.94), 2nd in the 200 Free (2:01.30) and 100 Fly (1:02.87), 4th in the 200 Back (2:20.47), and 5th in the 200 Fly (2:27.40).

In A Final competition, Asia placed 1st won the 50 Free (25.73) and 100 Free (54.87), placed 2nd in the 200 Free (2:01.46) and 100 Fly (1:03.78) and 4th in the 200 Back (2:21.07). Swimming Timed Finals, Asia placed 3rd in the 500 Free with a 5:19.28. The Lancer swimmer has qualified for Connecticut Age Group and Connecticut Senior Championships in the 50, 100, 200, and 500 Free. She’s qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships in the 100 Fly, 200 Back, and 200 Fly.

Ledyard’s Rachel Legg (15) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 15 – Over Division, placed 18th in the 50 Free (26.63), 40th in the 200 Breast (3:03.92) and 64th in the 200 Free (2:14.60).

Ledyard’s Jordan Legg (13) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 13 – 14 Division placed 5th in the 100 Back (1:05.19), 8th 200 Free (2:04.07) and 15th in the 100 Fly (1:10.17).

In A Final Rounds, Jordan placed 5th in the 100 Back (1:04.44) and 7th in the 200 Free (2:02.31). In B Final Rounds Jordan placed 4th in the 100 Fly B (1:07.14). Jordan has qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships in the 100 Back and 200 Free.

Griswold’s Emma McCall (9) swimming Timed Finals in the Girls 10 and Under Division placed 14th in the 100 Fly (1:53.23) and 100 Free (1:20.99), 19th in the 50 Free (36.11), 21st in the 50 Fly (48.55), 23rd in the 50 Breast (52.04) and 25th in the 200 Free (3:06.51).

Griswold’s Gracie McCall (11) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 11 – 12 Division placed 24th in the 50 Back (37.06), 31st in the 50 Free (31.56), 36th in the 100 Free (1:09.16), 40th in the 100 Back (1:19.58), 42nd in the 200 Free (2:28.76) and 53rd in the 200 IM (2:55.73).

Niantic’s and Fitch’s Falcon swimmer Grace Moriarty (14) , swimming preliminaries in the Girls 13 – 14 Division, placed 4th in the 100 Fly (1:05.60), 6th in the 200 Fly (2:30.01), 9th in the 50 Free (27.42) and 100 Free (58.97), 14th in the 200 Free (2:09.91) and 200 IM (2:30.81).

Swimming A Finals Grace placed 6th in the 100 Fly (1:06.17) and 7th in the 100 Free (58.99). Swimming Timed Finals, in the 400 IM Grace placed 18th with a 5:12.61. Swimming B Finals, Grace placed 2rd in the 50 Free (27.53), and 4th in the 200 Free (2:08.61) and 200 IM (2:30.08). Grace qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships in the 100 Fly.

East Lyme’s Michelle Saracovan (12) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 11 – 12 Division placed 12th in the 50 Back (34.85), 13th in the 200 Breast (3:06.31), 14th in the 50 Free (29.41), 19th in the 100 Free (1:04.88) 20th in the 200 Free (2:19.99), 22nd in the 100 Breast (1:27.05) and 30th in the 200 IM (2:44.01).

In B Final competition, Michelle placed 1st and won the 50 Back (33.99), 6th in the 50 Free (29.59) and 7th in the 100 Free (1:03.97).

New London’s TJ Ward (9) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 9 – 10 Division, placed 22nd in the 50 Back (51.81).

Waterford and Lancer swimmer Cat Ward (15) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 15 – Over Division, placed 42nd in the 100 Breast (1:29.80), 47th in the 100 Back (1:14.07), 48th in the 200 Back (2:44.20), 80th in the 200 Free (2:25.68) and 100 Free (1:05.73) and 83rd in the 50 Free (29.98).

Stonington’s Lauren DeCarlo (11) swimming preliminaries in the Girls (11 – 12) Division placed 51st in the 50 Free (33.55) and 56th in the 100 Back (1:25.07).

Prout Crusader and Pawcatuck swimmer, Julia Gavin (15) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 15 – Over Division placed 19th in the 100 Breast (1:16.52), 29th in the 100 Free (59.06), 30th in the 200 Breast (2:48.78), 43rd in the 200 IM (2:29.72), 50th in the 50 Free (27.98) and 55th in the 200 Breast (2:11.91).

In B Final rounds, Julia swam the 100 Breast, finishing 3th with a 1:14.65.

Westerly and Bull Dog High School swimmer Logan Hellwig (15) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 15 – Over Division placed 7th in the 100 Fly (57.43) and 50 Free (23.09), 8th in the 100 Back (58.30), 10th in the 100 Free (51.67), 12th in the 200 Back (2:07.51) and 13th in the 200 Fly (2:16.51).

Swimming in A Finals competition, Logan placed 4th in the 100 Fly (56.55), 5th in the 50 Free (23.36) and 6th in the 100 Back (56.62). Swimming in Timed Finals Logan placed 13th in the 500 Free (5:09.00). Swimming in B Final competition Logan placed 1st and won the 200 Back (2:04.64) and 100 Free (59.73). Hellwig is qualified for Connecticut Age Group and Senior Championships in the 100 and 200 Fly, 50, 100, 500 Free, and the 100 and 200 Back.

North Stonington’s Andrew Janz (16) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 15 – Over Division, placed 8th in the 100 Breast (1:06.81), 9th in the 200 Breast (2:25.52), 17th in the 100 Fly (59.50) and 200 IM (2:11.95) and 32nd in the 100 Free (53.57).

In A Finals, Andrew placed 8th in the 100 Breast (1:05.49). Swimming Timed Finals, Andy placed 9th in the 400 IM (4:34.20). In B Finals Andrew placed 1st in the 200 Breast (2:21.44) and 8th in the 200 IM (2:11.82). Janz is qualified for Connecticut Age Group and Senior Championships in the 100 and 200 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 and 400 IM.

North Stonington’s Lea Janz (13) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 13 – 14 Division placed 17th in the 100 Breast (1:23.89), 20th in the 200 IM (2:33.87), and 23rd in the 100 Free (1:01.78).

In Timed Final competition, Lea placed 37th in the 500 Free (5:52.55). In B Finals, Lea placed 6th in the 200 IM (2:31.93) and 8th in the 100 Breast (1:24.49).

Westerly’s Lea Koppermann (11) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 11 – 12 Division placed 7th in the 50 Breast (38.04), 16th in the 100 Breast (1:25.36) and 100 Free (1:03.89), 19th in the 200 IM (2:40.56), 20th in the 100 Back (1:14.71) and 24th in the 200 Free (2:21.32).

Swimming A Finals Lea placed 4th in the 50 Breast (37.95). In B Final competition Lea placed 6th in the 100 Free (1:03.92), 7th in the 100 Breast (1:27.28) and 8th in the 200 IM (2:42.01).

Pawcatuck’s Sam Rea (13), swimming preliminaries in the Boys 13 – 14 Division finished 24th in the 100 Back (1:17.32), 32nd in the 200 Back (2:46.32), 33rd in the 50 Free (28.31), 41st in the 100 Free (1:03.44), 44th in the 200 IM (3:01.30), and 45th in the 200 Free (2:26.79).

Pawcatuck’s Wes Rea (10), swimming Timed Finals in the Boys 9 – 10 Division placed 1st in the 50 Free (30.72) and 50 Fly (35.73), 4th in the 100 Fly (1:31.90) and 100 Free (1:11.09), 5th in the 200 Free (2:31.99) and 6th in the 200 IM (3:00.50). Wes has qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships in the 50 Free, 50 Fly, 100 Fly and 200 Free.

Westerly’s Joe Sullivan (10) swimming Time Finals in the Boys 9 – 10 Division finished 7th in the 50 Breast (46.53), 9th in the 200 IM (3:12.04), 10th in the 50 Free (34.73) and 100 Back (1:19.47), 14th in the 100 Free (1:19.47) and 16th in the 100 Breast (1:45.94).

Westerly’s Erika Rohdin (12) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 11 – 12 Division finished 12th in the 50 Free (29.21) and 100 Breast (1:23.23) and 21st in the 200 Free (2:20.53).

Swimming in the B Finals, Erika finished 2nd in the 100 Breast (1:22.56) and 4th in the 50 Free (29.45).

Mystic’s Adam Tran (16) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 15 – Over Division placed 14th in the 200 Breast (2:33.08), 15th in the 50 Free (23.84), 20th in the 100 Back (1:01.14), 22nd in the 200 IM (2:13.00), 23rd in the 100 Free (52.49), and 26th in the 200 Back (2:16.09).

Swimming in the B Finals, Adam finished 2nd in the 50 Free (23.62) and 6th in the 200 Breast (2:30.04). Adam is qualified for Connecticut Age Group and Senior Championships in the 200 Breast, 50 and 100 Free, 100 Back and 200 IM.

North Stonington’s Abby Vetrovec (8) swimming Timed Finals in the Girls 10 – Under Division finished 11th in the 50 Breast (48.46), 12th in the 100 Breast (1:44.14), 19th in the 50 Fly (47.92), and 22nd in the 50 Free (36.84) and 50 Back (46.23).

North Stonington’s Noah Vetrovec (14) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 13 – 14 Division finished 5th in the 200 Back (2:16.93), 7th in the 200 Free (2:03.45) and 100 Back (1:06.28), 10th in the 200 Breast (2:42;85), 13th in the 100 Breast (1:17.70), and 14th in the 100 Free (57.21).

Swimming A Finals, Noah finished 4th in the 200 Back (2:16.47), 7th in the 100 Back (1:05.39), and 8th in the 200 Free (2:02.47) and 200 Breast (2:42.90). Swimming Timed Finals in the 1650 Free, Noah placed 8th with a 18:28.53. Swimming B Finals, Noah placed 1st in the 100 Breast (1:16.53) and 4th in the 100 Free (57.24). Noah is qualified for Connecticut Age Group Championships in the 200 Back, 200 Free, 1650 Free, and 200 Back.

Groton’s and Fitch Falcon High School swimmer Jackie Kokomoor (15) swimming preliminaries in the Girls 15 – Over Division placed 21st in the 50 Free (26.78), 49th in the 100 Back (1:14.61), and 50th in the 200 Free (2:10.79).

Groton’s and Fitch Falcon High School Sam Kokomoor (13) swimming preliminaries in the Boys 13 – 14 Division placed 22nd in the 200 Free (2:10.32), 22nd in the 100 Back (1:16.62) and 34th in the 50 Free (28.32).
