HADDAM/KILLINGWORTH, CONNECTICUT – The Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys Swim Team started their winter break with an exciting win against Suffield High School on Friday, December 23rd. The final score was 93–72, bringing their record to 3-0. “The team is focusing very hard on training as we look ahead to our long term goal of being one of the top contenders at class S States” says Head Coach Ross Hanson.
HK started the meet against Suffield with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, consisting of Conor Champagne, Stuart Stritzel, Garrett Mazziotti and Zach O’Bymachow. Tristan Stritzel followed with a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle, while HK had 1-2 finishes in the 200 IM and the 100 Butterfly with R.J. Moore in first and Garrett Mazziotti in second.
HK took the top three places in the 50 freestyle with Neil Tyson, Stuart Stritzel and Zack O’Bymachow, and second and third in the 100 Freestyle with Tyson and Champagne. The 500 Freestyle was the most exciting race of the meet where Tristan Stritzel touched out his strong opponent from Suffield, with Gunnar Soneson following in third. HK placed first again in the 200 Freestyle relay consisting of S. Stritzel, Moore, Tyson, and T. Stritzel. Stuart Stritzel placed first in the 100 Breaststroke for HK, while team of one, Chris Myers represented Valley Regional High School with a first place finish in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. Connor Champagne placed second in the 100 Backstroke, followed by Emery Bates in third.
HK won the final event of the evening with the 400 Freestyle relay consisting of Moore, Mazziotti, O’Bymachow and T. Stritzel. Next meet is scheduled for 4pm on Friday, January 6th against Holy Cross at the HK pool. “We are looking forward to a tough close meet versus Holy Cross on January 6th.” Coach Hanson added.
