For the sixth year, Hygienic Art, Inc., is opening its doors to New London and Waterford youths for what has become the annual "Whalers + Lancers Student Art Show." Students from New London and Waterford High Schools put their art on display, starting with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. The work is wide-ranging - photography, drawings, paintings, ceramics, jewelry and mixed media. All the pieces are for sale. In fact, since the first student show six years ago, Hygienic has written artist commission checks to more than 100 New London and Waterford high school students, totaling several thousand dollars. The show runs through Jan. 21 at the galleries, 79-83 Bank St., New London. Hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thurs., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri. and Sat., and noon-3 p.m. Sun.; (860) 443-8001.
