A thing of 'Beauty' with Moscow Festival Ballet

From Bolshoi: Sergei Radchenko - once a principal dancer for the Bolshoi Ballet - founded the Moscow Festival Ballet back in 1989. His goal was simple: to use the classical elements of the Bolshoi and Kirov ballet companies in an independent new company.

Famous titles: The troupe brings new energy to such familiar tales as "Giselle," "Don Quixote" and - as on the current U.S. tour - "Sleeping Beauty."

The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming: The Moscow Festival Ballet has toured the U.S. throughout its history, with stints in 1997, 2001, 2004 and 2006. The current tour will run four months and go coast-to-coast - with a stop Saturday at the Garde Arts Center in New London.

- KRISTINA DORSEY

Moscow Festival Ballet's "Sleeping Beauty," 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $30-$50; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.
