Visual artists are invited to submit work to the 33rd Salon des Indépendants to be held at the Hygienic Art Galleries in downtown New London. Hanging begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, and runs until 6 p.m. The show officially opens at 8 p.m. that night and runs through Feb. 11. One piece per artist, no judge, no jury, no fees.

The Salon des Indépendants movement was created by French Impressionists who were not accepted into the established art venues of the late 19th century. The intent of the artists was to create an artistic event without jury or reward so that all forms of expression would have a chance to be presented to the public.

Admission to all events is free or by donation. Call (860) 444-6855 for details.
