Blowing winds and generally blustery conditions are bringing down trees and wires across the region today.
From Waterford to North Stonington, winds of up to 50 miles per hour are causing outages, traffic backups and even small fires.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until midnight tonight.
In Waterford, Route 85 was backed up near the reservoir in both directions as the town’s public works department and Connecticut Light & Power work to remove a downed tree that became entangled with power lines. The CL&P website shows 158 of its customers without power at 3 p.m.
Groton City had their first wind-related call around 2:45 p.m., a dispatcher there said, for a downed power line at 45 Bayberry Lane.

In North Stonington, a tree came down across Mystic Road and onto some wires, selectman’s assistant Robin Roohr said. The fire department just went to investigate a call of a tree down on wires that may have started a small fire on Cedar Drive, she said.
In Ledyard, 180 CL&P customers are without power.
