Someday in the future, museum honchos and experts in costume design will undoubtedly curate exhibitions based on the outfits of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry - and historians and arty folk will flock to see them. Contextually, it's enlightening to ponder "Women of New England: Dress from the Industrial Age, 1850-1900," the new exhibition opening today at the Benton Museum at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Not only are the pieces visually stunning, the show is set up to tell the story of clothing manufacture and dressmaking through New England at a time when textile mills were of major economic significance. Exhibit runs through March 11. The Benton is at 245 Glenbrook Road, Storrs. Hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tues.-Fri., 1-4:30 p.m. Sat. and Sun. (860) 486-4520, thebenton.org.
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
