Hebron — A Do Not Drink advisory has been lifted for customers of the Amston Lake Water System, which serves 181 year-round customers in Lebanon, Colchester and Hebron, the Connecticut Water Company and health officials announced Wednesday.
Connecticut Water Company spokesman Dan Meaney said in a release that the levels of copper in the water have been steadily declining during the last week and samples were below the action level on Wednesday morning. The cause of the high copper levels is most likely due to copper plumbing in resident's homes, Meaney said.
"Providing additional treatment that raised the pH of the supply going into the system has neutralized the water and effectively reduced the copper coming from household plumbing into the water," Meaney said. "The company apologizes to customers for the inconvenience and appreciates their patience and cooperation during the investigation."
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
