A deal to be had at the Garde's New London Winter Film Series

Here's a nice thing: For its New London Winter Film Festival, the Garde Arts Center is selling tickets for $4 - half the price charged for past festivals.

The reasoning, the Garde press release says, is in recognition of the economic times.

The line-up consists of the type of movies you've come to expect from the Garde series, with an emphasis on those that seem destined to be nominated for Oscars. (Nominations, by the way, are announced Tuesday.)

Something new, though, is an Anime Film Series, presented in collaboration with Lyman Allyn Art Museum. The museum is hosting an exhibition through March 17 titled "Hello Manga!" about the popular Japanese comics.

The other screenings range from "Beginners" to "Bridesmaids" to "Moneyball" to "Drive" to "Puss in Boots." Oh, and additional movies are expected to be announced during the festival.
