Roundup: Conn women's hockey lengthens its unbeaten streak

New London - Courtney Dumont had a goal and an assist, leading Connecticut College to a 3-1 win over Wesleyan in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday.

Ariel DiPasquale and Olivia Farrell also scored, Kelsie Fralick made 20 saves and Andrea McRae, Jillian Dolliff, Caroline Corbett and Molly Murphy had assists for Conn (8-5-2, 5-4-1), which is unbeaten in its last six games. Hannah Jellinek scored for Wesleyan (2-16, 1-9).

Men's basketball

• Tufts jumped out to a 48-23 halftime lead and went on to beat Conn College 83-55 in a NESCAC game. Matt Vadas had 16 points and four assists for Conn (6-12, 0-6). C.J. Moss scored 11 points and Alex Orchowski had 10 rebounds for Tufts (12-5, 4-2).

• Steve Rosemond scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Newbury to a 64-58 win over Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference game. Joshua Ford had 14 points and seven rebounds, Paul Jefferson scored 15 and Enoch Contreras had 10 points for Mitchell (5-9, 3-5).

Women's basketball

• Conn College shot just 12 percent from the floor (6 of 47) and lost to Tufts 51-21 in a NESCAC game. Tufts (15-3, 5-1) led 24-11 at halftime. Tara Gabelman had eight points and nine rebounds for Conn (13-3, 4-2).

• Freshman Erin Young came off the bench to score 28 points in 21 minutes, lifting Babson to a 96-47 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Freshman Dani Knox scored 12 points and classmate Jamie Waterman had 11 points and six rebounds for Coast Guard (5-9, 1-9). Babson (14-2, 10-0) in No. 20 in the latest NCAA Div. III poll.

• Regis College led 57-20 at halftime and beat Mitchell College 88-42 in a NECC game. Sheanna James scored 20 points, Zilka Navarro had 10 points and Bianca Young had seven rebounds for Mitchell (5-10, 4-5).

Men's indoor track

• Conn College's Alex Mavrovic won the mile run at the Wesleyan Invitational with a time of 4:19.97, which qualified him for the New England Div. III meet. Conn's distance medley relay team of Doug Wright, Geoff Phaneuf, Mavrovic and Mike LeDuc were second in 10:39.17.

LeDuc also had a fifth-place finish in the mile (4:25.67), Old Lyme's Ian Rathkey was sixth in the 600 (1:25.09) and Patrick Dermody was sixth in the 3,000 (8:54.57), with all three qualifying for the New Englands. Dan Smoot set a school record in the 50 hurdles at 9.78.

• Coast Guard's 4x800 meter relay finished third at the Springfield College Invitational. Trevor Siperek, Trevor Auth, James Martin and Jordan Lee ran a 8:26.69. CGA's 4x400 team of Kelcey Smith, Ryan Hub, Ben Hannon and Joe Kelly was fourth in 3:32.69 and the 4x200 team of Smith, Erick Jackson, Rian Bareuther and Hannon were also fourth in 1:37.98.

Sixth-place finishes went to Bryan Ayotte in the shot put (44-5) and Ben Wolhaupter in the pole vault (13-1.5) with Ayotte's time qualifying him for the New England Div. III meet. Joe Kelly was seventh in the 400 with a time of 53.27. Adam Scalese's 8.35 in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries is the eighth-best Div. III time this season.

Women's indoor track

• Coast Guard had a pair of sixth-place finishes at the Springfield College Invitational. Liz Flint's 34-5.75 in the triple jump and Hanna Seeland's 35-8.75 in the shot put were both good for sixth. Gina Caylor finished eighth in the pole vault at 9-6.25.

• Samantha Pevear and Sara Gildersleeve set Conn College records and qualified for the New Englands at the Wesleyan Invitational. Pevear was second in the shot put (36-4) and Gildersleeve was third in the 60 dash (8.11). Sarah Matthews also qualified for New Englands with a third-place finish in the 600 (1:44.39).

Other top finishers for Conn were Kim Bolick (second in the mile, 5:30.76), Kerry Dermody (sixth in the mile, 5:36.90), Carmen Palumbo (seventh in the 60 hurdles, 10.13) and Lianne Swanson (eighth in the 5K run, 20:06).

The 4x400 relay team of Gildersleeve, Christine Roundtree, Michelle Wesley and Matthews were fourth (4:18.61) and the distance medley team of Dermody, Taylor Havican, Swanson and Ally Bonito were fifth at 13:46.66.
