East Lyme — A scale model of the ship Niantic is now on display at the community center, at 41 Society Road in Niantic.
The model was built by members of the Rotary Club of Niantic and was the winning float in the nonprofit organization category of the East Lyme Light Parade in December.
The model commemorates the historic ship, which was built in Connecticut in 1832 and was used for trade and whaling, and celebrates the anticipated arrival of tall ships for OpSail 2012, which will come to southeastern Connecticut in July.
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
