Norwich – A city man about to be taken into police custody today for failing to pay child support jumped a rail in the courthouse and ran away, police said.
Elton Canuto’s run out of the GA 21 courthouse is not an escape, said state judicial branch spokesperson Rhonda Stearley-Hebert, because he was not shackled or yet in police custody.
Stearley-Hebert said Norwich and state police were notified by the court marshals after the 12:20 p.m. dash, but Canuto was not apprehended.
Stearley-Hebert said she did not know what charges Canuto, 28, would face if apprehended.
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
