Groton — The demolition of the student center at the Avery Point campus of the University of Connecticut will begin Monday at 8 a.m. after a several month delay due to asbestos abatement.
According to a press release, the contractor will begin preparing the area for the demolition at 7 a.m. Monday. The road from the traffic circle to the library will be one-way, exit only, for two weeks, beginning Monday.
Pedestrians also are asked to avoid that stretch of road during that period. Pedestrian access from the student parking lot to the academic building and library should be cutting across the green, or behind the police station and across to the community and professional building.
Demolition likely will begin between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Spectators are welcome. Demolition of the building should take from three to five days. Removal of the debris should take another three to five days, and should be completed by Feb. 10.
