Stonington — A Pawcatuck woman was injured this morning when her car veered off Route 1 and struck a stand of trees at the entrance to the Brookside Village apartment complex.
The woman had to be extricated from her Nissan Altima by Pawcatuck firefighters who cut the roof and doors off the car to get her out after the 10:05 a.m. crash. The car was demolished.
According to police and firefighters, the woman, who is a resident of Brookside Village, was driving west on Route 1 when she went off the right side of the road, just missing a bus shelter and striking the trees. The woman was taken by Westerly Ambulance to Westerly Hospital. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Route 1 in the area is open.
