East Lyme — School officials will give a presentation on the proposed athletic complex at East Lyme High School at the Feb. 1 Board of Selectmen meeting.

The meeting will be held in the upper meeting room immediately following the special 6:30 p.m. executive session to discuss the police union contract.

The long-anticipated project, which would include an artificial turf field, received Board of Education approval in December 2010, but has not reached the selectmen’s desk. Projected at $2.5 million, the field renovations would include a new parking lot and driveway that serves the field, Flanders School and the district’s central office.

Parking lot and driveway renovations would cost an additional $500,000 or so, Superintendent James Lombardo said.

If the selectmen approve the project, it would go to an informational hearing on Tuesday, to the Board of Finance on Wednesday, to a town meeting on Feb. 15 and finally to a referendum vote, First Selectman Paul Formica said.

The selectmen will at the meeting also hold a brief ceremony to issue badges for the town’s two new police K-9s: German shepherd Jimo, whose handler is Officer Michael Jezierski, and yellow Labrador retriever Knox, whose handler is Officer Lindsay Cutillo.
