Waterford girls earn share of title

Waterford - Adily Martucci had 21 points and Alyssa Hancock 14 as the Waterford High School girls' basketball team won its 11th straight game Monday night, beating Stonington 57-52 to clinch at least a share of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division title.

Waterford is 14-3 overall, 8-0 in the Medium Division, two games ahead of Montville and Ledyard in the loss column with two games to play. The Lancers could clinch the championship outright with a win Thursday night against Ledyard.

The Lancers, who have not lost since they played top-ranked E.O. Smith of Storrs on Dec. 29, led Stonington 23-14 after one quarter.

Falecia Cabral had 15 points and six rebounds and Amanda Roy 14 points, including four 3-pointers, for Stonington (7-10, 2-6).

In other games:

• Kelly Ratchford scored 11 of her 15 points in the second quarter to help lift Old Saybrook to a 46-27 victory over Westbrook in the Shoreline Conference. Old Saybrook trailed 12-10 entering the second quarter but went on to lead 26-15 at halftime. Kayla McAvoy added 13 points for the Rams (10-5).

• Hannah Behringer finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in Old Lyme's 53-43 loss to Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference. Nikki Strizzi added 13 points for Old Lyme (5-12). Hale-Ray is 6-10.

• Jessica Deschamps finished with 17 points, three rebounds and four steals as Norwich Tech topped Grasso Tech 57-18 in the Constitution State Conference. Nicole Gressly added eight points, nine rebounds and four steals and April Littlefield had five rebounds for the Warriors (4-11). Christine Murray had six points for Grasso Tech (0-16).

• Shelby Grauer scored 17 points for Holy Family in a 52-30 loss to Hartford Classical Holy Family is 4-11 overall, 3-6 in the CSC.

Women's basketball

• Jenn Shinall had 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first half, leading Connecticut College to a 67-38 win over Coast Guard. Shinall was 6-for-7 from 3-point range, 7-for-12 overall, and Tara Gabelman added 13 points for Conn (15-4), which jumped out to a 20-2 lead. Coast Guard (5-12) dropped its seventh straight game. Jamie Waterman led the Bears with eight points, all in the second half.

College football

• Jordan Orlovsky and Michael Digman have been named graduate assistant coaches at UConn for the 2012 season, head coach Paul Pasqualoni announced.
