Flock takes on "Emma"

Flock Theatre is so thematically on its game. It has scheduled its production of Jane Austen's beloved "Emma" - about an inveterate matchmaker who finds herself falling in love - just in time for Valentine's Day.

The run, though, begins Tuesday at the Shaw Mansion in New London. It's a continuation of Flock's popular "Shaw Series."

Diana Dunlap stars as Emma Woodhouse, whose latest "project" is finding romance for the modest Harriet Smith, played by Erica Strickland. Harriet may not have social standing, but Emma is determined to find her an impressive suitor.

(Yes, teen-rom-com film fans, this sounds familiar because this Austen classic inspired "Clueless.")

Directing this Jon Jory adaptation is Flock Associate Artist Michael Langlois.

"Emma" marks just the latest collaboration between Flock Theatre and the Shaw Mansion, home of the New London County Historical Society. Other Flock performances here have included "The Holly and the Ivy", "The Importance of Being Earnest" (2009), "Pride and Prejudice" (2008, 2010), "Little Women" (2011, 2012) and "The Cherry Orchard" (2011).
