Captain and Mrs. Robert Ayer of Gales Ferry announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Armstrong Ayer to John Alexander Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Thomas, also of Gales Ferry. Both graduated from Ledyard High School in 2005 and Wheaton College in Massachusetts in 2009.

At Wheaton, Emily was an English major who graduated summa cum laude. She is employed as the art director at Southern Weddings Magazine. John was an economics major who graduated magna cum laude and is now employed at Fidelity Investments.

The couple lives in North Carolina and will marry in September 2012.
