The owner of R.J. Julia Booksellers, a well-known independent bookstore in downtown Madison, revealed in a message to customers this morning that she's seeking a buyer for the business.
"This is not an end for R.J. Julia, but simply a new beginning," Roxanne Coady wrote.
Coady indicated the store will remain open.
"I am committed to being patient in order to find the right person and to do this the right way," she wrote.
Donna Paz Kaufman, whom Coady described as a highly respected educator, consultant and "friend of independent bookselling," will handle the sale. Kaufman, founder of the Florida-based Bookstore Training Group of Paz & Associates, "has known the store for years and knows the industry inside out," Coady wrote.
Coady founded R.J. Julia's in 1990.
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
