It took more than a year to grow out his usual buzz cut, but on Feb. 16, nine-year old Garet Brown will shave it all off again to help raise money for research for childhood cancer. He will be among the "shave-ees," including several members of the Derby Fire Department, participating in a St. Baldrick's Foundation head-shaving fundraising event at the Derby Elks Lodge. The Melissa Jones Elementary School student has already raised more than $465 and is listed as one of the Derby event's top individual fundraisers. He was inspired to get involved and raise money in memory of an uncle who passed away suddenly in 2010 and who at times in his life had long hair, according to Brown's mother, Michelle Barry. Garet Brown is registered as a "shavee" at www.stbaldricks.org, where contributions to his fundraising effort can be made.
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
