The Connecticut Sun signed free agent forward Mistie Mims to a two-year contract on Monday, the team announced.
The 6-foot-3 Mims - formerly Mistie Bass - has appeared in 120 games over five seasons with the Houston Comets and Chicago Sky.
Mims, who was selected No. 21 overall in the 2006 WNBA draft out of Duke, is expected to be the complementary front-court role player Jessica Moore became during the 2011 season. Moore, now a free agent, recently had an arthroscopic procedure on her left knee and is in rehabilitation.
"We were in the free agent market because we're not sure Jessica Moore is going to be able to play at the beginning of the season," Sun coach Mike Thibault said in a statement released by the team. "Mistie is somebody we have been looking at for a couple of years. She can play both post positions. She fits into our style. She's a post player who can run the floor."
Mims did not play in the WNBA in 2011. She is currently averaging a league-high 19.7 points per game for Challes-Les-Eaux in the French League. Playing for the same team in 2010-11, Mims was the MVP among foreign players, averaging 19.1 points and 9.2 rebounds.
