Ledyard — The Town Council appointed police Lt. Michael Finkelstein as a town fire investigator Wednesday.
Finkelstein completed his training in November and is expected to be sworn in by the town clerk.
With his certification, he will be able to provide additional services to the town when the fire marshal or the deputy fire marshals are not available and a fire investigation is required.
Town Fire Marshal James O. Mann Jr. said in a Jan. 26 letter to the town that Finkelstein’s appointment “... is also strongly recommended by the State’s Attorney’s office that a member of the local police agency is also certified and appointed in cases where possible criminal activity may have occurred.”
Finkelstein completed his training in November by earning an 86 on the fire investigator exam. A passing grade is 70, according to the state’s Office of Education and Data Management.
