British conductor Timothy Reynish champions new music - commissioning it and performing it. And he's not all talk.
When he leads Sunday's U.S. Coast Guard Band concert, he'll conduct a program consisting entirely of pieces that have never been performed in the Coast Guard Academy's Leamy Hall.
What audiences hear will be heavy on British composers' work, including Kenneth Hesketh's "Masque," Richard Rodney Bennett's "Trumpet Concerto" featuring trumpeter Musician First Class Tom Brown, and Ernest Tomlinson's "Suite of English Dances."
This is all part of the annual Lewis J. Buckley Guest Artist Concerts, which pay tribute to the former director of the U.S. Coast Guard Band.
