The Associated Press reports today here on a new study, done right after the September 11 attacks, that found a link between the decline in shipping in Canada's Bay of Fundy and reduced levels of stresss in whales, who apparently enjoyed the lower levels of noise. They measure whale stress, by the way, by checking hormone levels in whale feces, although, thankfully, the story doesn't explain exactly how that happens.
An excellent editorial today questions how a grand jury in Rhode Island could have exonerated Westerly police for a homicide that occurred on their watch, the death of a prisoner who, evidence indicates, was beaten to death. Where, one wonders, is the political outrage?
