The case of contractor Bruce “Bruno” Hayn, who is accused of setting fire to his wood pellet business in Norwich in October, has been transferred to the court were major crimes are heard.
Hayn, 54, of 31 Sashel Lane, Colchester, appeared briefly in Superior Court in Norwich Tuesday on charges of first-degree arson, criminal attempt to commit first-degree arson, insurance fraud and second-degree giving a false statement.
Judge Hunchu Kwak transferred the case to the “Part A” court in New London and continued it to March 8.
Hayn is accused of setting fire to his business, Shur Fire on West Thames Street, on Oct. 27, causing extensive damage to the building and its contents.
Hayn is well known for leading charitable building projects, including one in Griswold that was featured on the TV show “Extreme Makover.” He also is a longtime member of Colchester’s Board of Finance.
