When residents in our region wake up Saturday morning, they should see something outside their windows that they haven't seen in a while — snow.
The National Weather Service said starting around 4 a.m., snow will start to fall in the state. Both shoreline and inland towns should expect 2 to 4 inches of the fluffy stuff. The high temperature for Saturday will be near 36 degrees.
The snow should stop around 4 p.m.
On Sunday, it will be a brisk day with temperatures only reaching a high of 28 degrees. The temperature, however, will begin to warm up early next week.
Closings and postponements:
• All East Lyme Public Schools buildings will be closed Saturday due to the anticipated inclement weather. Sports and other school activities scheduled for Saturday have also all been canceled.
• In Norwich, the One City Forum, hosted by Mayor Peter Nystrom, scheduled for Saturday morning has been canceled because of the expected snowstorm. Nystrom announced the cancelation on the advice of the city Public Works Department.
• The City of New London will have a parking ban in effect at 3 a.m. due to the predicted snow. Downtown residents may park in the garage for free or designated spots at the Eugene O'Neill Lots. Also, City residents should park on the odd numbered side of the street if parking is allowed on both sides.
The reader web chat with Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Gaming Authority, was held on Thursday, May 24.
