What I would like to know is how someone is allowed to hold a position as long as the New London fire chief has? The president of the United States has a specific amount of time to spend in office and that should be how any office should be - city, state etc.
When you remain in office too long you begin to think that in that position you can run things as you please. Who has this chief been accountable to before we elected a mayor and why were they so lax in allowing the segregated nature of the fire service to continue so long?
This is one reason why New Londoners felt they needed change. If we need a change in government, then we need to change elsewhere where people have been in there positions too long. I am very saddened by some of our local politicians supporting things they truly know are wrong and unjust because they are afraid to outwardly stand up for what is right.
You can't just march on Martin Luther King Day, then stab your fellow man in the back by not allowing equality. I do not mean hire someone just because of their color, but when his resume looks good. back him.
