North Branford – A North Branford resident is being recognized by the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection on Saturday after catching the world record striped bass last summer.

Greg Myerson caught his 81.88 pound bass on Aug. 4, 2011, off of Westbrook in Long Island Sound. Myerson and 56 other anglers will be recognized at the Northeast Fishing and Hunting Show at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, the DEEP announced in a press release today.

The anglers will be presented with certificates to recognize their catches.

"Fishing in Connecticut in 2011 was truly exceptional, as new state records were set for a total of six species, in three cases breaking records that had stood for twenty-five years or more," DEEP Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said. "Most notably, these new records include a striped bass that has been confirmed by the International Game Fish Association as a new world record. We are hoping that anglers from around the country will take notice and make Connecticut their fishing vacation destination."
