9 Town Transit, the regional public bus system, has announce a fare increase effective March 1. The increase will increase the regular cash fare to $1.50 on bus routes and $3 on the Dial-A-Ride service and off-route trips.
9 Town Transit officials say the increase is necessary to keep up with increasing fuel and maintenance costs, which are rising faster than funding from the Connecticut Department of Transportation. They point out that the cost of ten ticket books and monthly passes is rising just 2 percent and 4 percent, respectively, making prepaid fares a better deal than ever. Ticket books purchased prior to the fare increase will remain valid for one year after purchase.

9 Town Transit buses serve riders in Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook with connections to New Haven, New London, and Middletown.
