No. 4 Huskies look to bounce back at Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh - UConn, which had its 99-game home winning streak snapped on Saturday night by St. John's, plays the first of two road games this week tonight against Pittsburgh at the Petersen Events Center.

The Big East Conference game tips at 7 and will be televised by CPTV.

The Huskies (24-3, 11-2) dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 in Monday's Associated Top 25 poll following the 57-56 loss to the Red Storm, who went from unranked all the way to No. 20 this week.

"We have to focus," senior Tiffany Hayes said following the loss. "Coach (Geno Auriemma) said a loss is probably good for us because we were making mistakes in other games. He was saying it would cost us in other games and (Saturday) it happened.

"I think it will make us focus even more."

That could be bad news for Pittsburgh (8-18, 0-13), the Big East's worst team. The Panthers have lost 12 straight and haven't won since beating Lafayette 84-69 in overtime back on Dec. 28. UConn has also beaten Pitt 26 straight times dating back to 1993.

Hayes, UConn's lone senior, struggled against St. John's but still leads the Huskies in scoring (15.6 ppg.) and is second in rebounding (5.8).

Sophomore point guard Bria Hartley (14.3), freshman forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (13.8) and sophomore center Stefanie Dolson (10.0) also average in double figures for UConn.

Following tonight's game, the Huskies visit Marquette on Saturday before closing out the regular season against No. 3 Notre Dame at the XL Center in Hartford on Monday, Feb. 27 in a game that will decide which team will enter the upcoming Big East tournament at the No. 1 seed.
