UConn announced this afternoon that coach Jim Calhoun will undergo a surgical procedure on Monday and miss the next two games.

Calhoun has been on a medical leave of absence since Feb. 3 suffering from spinal stenosis, a painful lower back condition. He's already been sidelined for six games.

The goal of the procedure is to help alleivate his condition. Calhoun will be be hospitalized one or two nights. Then his coaching status will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

"I'm glad we have finally determined the best course of treatment to deal with the problem," Calhoun said in a released statement. "I'm looking forward to having the procedure done, hopefully recovering as quickly as possible, and putting it all in the past."

Associate head coach George Blaney will continue to run the team against No. 2 Syracuse Saturday in Storrs and at Providence Tuesday.

After facing Providence, UConn closes out the regular season Saturday, March 3, against Pittsburgh in Storrs. The Big East touranment begins on March 6 in New York.
