Chaplin – A Willimantic man died and a woman remains in serious condition Thursday after both were stabbed Wednesday afternoon in what police have called an isolated incident.
State police said Michael Mitchel, 42, of 3 Bellview St., Willimantic, was pronounced dead after emergency medical personnel found him unresponsive Wednesday in a driveway outside a home on Mount Laurel Lane in Chaplin. Mitchel died of multiple stab wounds, police said, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Police originally responded to the area after getting a 4:21 p.m. 911 call reporting an unidentified female seriously injured at 95 Miller Road. The woman was taken to Windham Hospital before being flown to Hartford Hospital, where police say she remains in “extremely” serious condition. The identity of the woman has not been established, police said.
At the Miller Road scene, police said they learned Mitchel was injured on Mount Laurel Lane. Mount Laurel Lane is off of Miller Road. Mitchel was pronounced dead on scene, police said.
The investigation is ongoing police said.
