The Branford Hornets hockey squad fought to the end in the state title match against Trumbull, scoring a tying goal with two minutes left to play before ceding a fourth and then a fifth empty net goal in the few remaining seconds of their 2011-2012 season.
Branford held a 2-0 lead after two periods with goals by Tyler Criscuolo and Tyler Hackett, only to face a third-period push from Trumbull that started with a power play goal.
Hackett scored Branford's third and final goal on a power play with two minutes left, but Trumbull would not be denied its fourth goal with a minute and a half remaining. The Hornets pulled their goalie in the last seconds and Trumbull scored it's fifth goal on an empty net with 30 seconds remaining on the Ingalls Rink clock.
