Ledyard — Police arrested a Mystic man Monday in connection with a fire he allegedly set last month at the Groton Reservoir on Sandy Hollow Road.

In a joint investigation between the Ledyard and Groton Town police departments, David R. Ort, 22, of 148 Lambtown Road, was charged with two counts of reckless burning.

Groton’s Det. Lt. John Varone said the second count was lodged by his department in connection with a brush fire on Lambtown Road in May 2010.

Ort was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on April 2.

At 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, Ledyard police, along with the Ledyard and Gales Ferry fire departments, responded to the reservoir for a report of smoke coming from a wooded area.

Anyone with information about suspicious fires should contact Groton Town police at (860) 441-6712 or Ledyard police at (860) 464-6400.
