Former Norwich Free Academy standout R.J. Evans, who attends Holy Cross, is looking to finish his college basketball career and continue his education at another school.

Evans would like to pursue a master's degree in business after graduating in May. He has one year of eligibility remaining due to the fact that he missed the majority of the 2010-11 season with a sports hernia.

Evans, a 6-foot-3 guard, visited UConn on Monday, meeting with coach Jim Calhoun and assistant Glen Miller.

"They said it would be good opportunity," Evans said today. "They think what I can bring to the table is a tough, hard-nosed guard and that I can bring some leadership as an older guy.

"We'll talk after the Final Four and see what happens."

Evans averaged 11.5 points last season for the Crusaders. He had a team-high 15 points and four rebounds against UConn in a 77-40 loss on Dec. 18 in Hartford.

Here's what Evans said about his homecoming experience that day:

"It was a great time," said Evans who is from Salem. "I'll remember this for a long, long time. I'll never forget it. I saw people from my town when I was in middle school who haven't seen me play in eight years -- my old AAU coaches, my family, my mom and dad.

"It was a good experience."

Evans hopes to make a decision by mid-April. He's also considering Virginia, Wake Forest, Quinnipiac and Albany. His next home will have to be a good academic match.

UConn's potential post-season ban is not a major hurdle, according to Evans. He would be eligible to play next season.

Right now, his first choice is UConn.

"It's hard for it not to be (my first choice) because I'm a hometown kid and it would be a great opportunity in general and hard to pass up...," Evans said. "It would be pretty cool if I ended up at UConn."
